Coquitlam is a city in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is part of the Metro Vancouver area. As of 2021, 148,625 people lived there. In 2016, the population was 139,284. Between 2016 and 2021 the population grew by 6.7%.[4] The mayor of Coquitlam is Richard Stewart.[3]

The Coast Salish people occupied the territory for at least 9,000 years before Simon Fraser came through the region in 1808. Europeans settled in Coquitlam during 1859.[6]
The city of Coquitlam was named a Cultural Capital of Canada in 2009 by the Department of Canadian Heritage.[7]
