David Eby QC (born July 21, 1977 in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada) is a Canadian politician. He is the 37th and current Premier of British Columbia since November 18, 2022. He was the Attorney General of British Columbia under John Horgan from 2017 until 2022.
He was first elected to the BC legislature in 2013 as Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Vancouver-Point Grey. He was appointed as Attorney General by Premier John Horgan in 2017. His additional duties include: gambling policy, liquor policy, and the Insurance Corporation of BC (ICBC). He is a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP).
Before entering provincial politics, Eby was the Executive Director of the BC Civil Liberties Association, an adjunct professor of law at the University of British Columbia (UBC), and the president of the HIV/AIDS Legal Network. He was also involved in the Vancouver Foundation’s Health, Social Development Committee, and in the Pivot Legal Society.
Eby is a lawyer by profession. He is an advocate of human rights, especially those of the homeless and under-housed residents of Vancouver.
On November 18, 2022, Eby was sworn in as premier.[1]
