Excellency

Excellency is an honorific style that is given to members of a certain organization or state, usually a president or governor. Once a person gets the title of "Excellency" it is usually held by that person for the rest of their life though this is not always the case. For example some countries presidents get the title of "Excellency" but only hold it for their time in that office.

After receiving the title of “Excellency,” a person may continue to use it even after leaving office, depending on the country’s custom.^[1] In diplomatic protocol, “Excellency” often precedes the person’s name — for example, “His Excellency John Smith.”

In diplomacy, the title Excellency is commonly used when addressing ambassadors, heads of state, and high-ranking officials. In formal letters, the correct salutation is usually “Your Excellency”. This form is widely accepted in international diplomatic practice and official government correspondence.^[2]

In formal protocol and official invitations, Excellency is often used to show respect and formality toward high-ranking officials. This style reflects the prestige of their office and is common in formal diplomatic ceremonies and state functions.^[3]
