Haram (Arabic: حرام, romanized: ħarām) is an Arabic word that literally means "forbidden".[1][2]

It may be used to refer to sacred knowledge that is hidden from the people. However, the word is more commonly used for an evil and sinful action that Islam forbids.

In Islamic law, the term is used to refer to any action that is forbidden by the Qur'an. It is one of the Five Pillars of Islam.[3][4]
