James Phillip McAuley (12 October 1917 – 15 October 1976) was an Australian poet who also composed hymns. He was a Catholic whose hymns were used in Catholic liturgy and now by other denominations.[1] McAuley was born in Lakemba, Sydney. His first book of verse, Under Aldebaran, was published in 1946.[2] He died of liver cancer in Hobart.
