Karakol (Kyrgyz: Каракол, Qaraqol/Karakol, formerly Przhevalsk (Russian: Пржевальск), is a city of about 68,800 people in Kyrgyzstan, near the eastern tip of Lake Issyk-Kul and about 150 kilometres (93 mi) from the Kyrgyz-Chinese border. It is the capital of Issyk-Kul Region.
Its area is 44 square kilometres (17 sq mi) and 66,294 people lived here in 2009.[1]
