Career

Nicholas Hoult's acting talent was discovered at the age of three by a theater director,[3] who offered him a role in his upcoming production, "The Caucasian Chalk Circle." From then on, he began attending auditions and made his film debut in "Intimate Relations" (1996), playing Julie Walters' grandson. From that moment, he became a frequent choice for productions seeking an "unconventional child who looked intelligent even when silent." In addition to acting, he showed an interest in ballet, performing as a dancer in high-profile regional productions with the English National Ballet, in works such as "Swan Lake" and "The Nutcracker."

At the age of 11, he made his big-screen debut as Marcus in "About a Boy" (2002), alongside Hugh Grant, Toni Collette, and Rachel Weisz. At 15, he made his Hollywood debut with "The Weather Man" (2005), starring alongside Nicolas Cage and Michael Caine, and led "Wah-Wah" (2005) alongside Gabriel Byrne, Emily Watson, and Julie Walters.

His transition from child actor to adult actor came with his role as Tony Stonem in the series "Skins" (2007-2008), a media phenomenon for which he was nominated for the Golden Nymph Awards. In 2009, he debuted on stage at London's Trafalgar Studios with "New Boy";[4] and worked on "A Single Man" (2009) by Tom Ford, alongside Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, earning a BAFTA nomination in the Orange Rising Star category. He later played a role in "Clash of the Titans" (2010), his first major production, alongside Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, and Ralph Fiennes. Between 2011 and 2019, he portrayed Beast in the "X-Men" saga, starring alongside James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Kevin Bacon, and Hugh Jackman. In 2013, he starred in "Warm Bodies" alongside Teresa Palmer and John Malkovich; and "Jack the Giant Slayer" alongside Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci. In 2014, he appeared in the science fiction film "Young Ones," directed by Jake Paltrow, alongside Elle Fanning and Michael Shannon. In 2015, he played Nux in "Mad Max: Fury Road," one of his most recognized roles, alongside Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy. That same year, he starred in "Dark Places" with Charlize Theron, the black comedy "Kill Your Friends," and the independent film "Equals" with Kristen Stewart. In 2017, he worked with Felicity Jones and Anthony Hopkins in "Collide" and starred in "Newness."

He participated in various historical and biographical films: he portrayed J. D. Salinger in "Rebel in the Rye" (2017) alongside Kevin Spacey; Nikola Tesla in "The Current War" (2017) alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Michael Shannon and Tom Holland; and a soldier in the Iraq War in "Sand Castle" (2017) alongside Henry Cavill and Glen Powell. In "The Favourite" (2018), he played Robert Harley, an eccentric opposition leader, alongside Olivia Colman, Rachel Weisz, and Emma Stone. In 2019, he co-starred in "True History of the Kelly Gang" alongside George MacKay, Charlie Hunnam and Russell Crowe; "The Banker" (2020) with Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson; and "Tolkien" (2019), where he portrayed J. R. R. Tolkien alongside Lily Collins. Between 2020 and 2023, he played Peter III of Russia in "The Great" alongside Elle Fanning, a role for which he received nominations for two Golden Globe Awards and a Primetime Emmy Award.[5] In 2021, he starred alongside Angelina Jolie and Jon Bernthal in "Those Who Wish Me Dead." In 2022, he co-starred in the black comedy "The Menu" alongside Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy. In 2023, he played Robert Montague Renfield in "Renfield" alongside Nicolas Cage. He is a member of the Academy of Arts and American Film Sciences [6] and has his own movie production company known as Dead Duck Films.[7]

In 2024, he participated in four films: he voiced Jon in "The Garfield Movie"; he starred in "The Order" alongside Jude Law, portraying radical Bob Mathews; he appeared in Clint Eastwood's "Juror #2" alongside Toni Collette, J. K. Simmons, and Kiefer Sutherland; and he led Robert Eggers gothic horror film "Nosferatu," alongside Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Willem Dafoe.

It was announced that Hoult will play Lex Luthor in Superman from director James Gunn as part of the DC Universe.[8]
