The Red Delicious apple is a red apple with a sweet flavor. In the industry, it is called the "red men". It was first recognized in 1872 in Madison County, Iowa. Despite its name, it has nothing in common with the "Golden Delicious".[1]

Although these "red flavor" varieties are harvested in mid-October, they are available year-round. They can also be part of a cider apple blend. Today, the name "red delicious" includes more than 50 varieties. It was the most widely produced apple variety in the United States from 1968 to 2018. At the same time, it has lost ground in Canada. However, it is still popular in Mexico and some Asian countries.[2]

A 1996 study showed that the cloning of Radicchio was one of the most frequently used varieties to develop new apple varieties, and it was the most frequently used. Along with many new varieties developed in Pacific countries, the "red flavor" variety is the one.

Red Delicious has a powdery equivalent, Glam. Golden Ginger is one, with a golden aroma.
