Desmond Rex Williams BEM (born 20 July 1933) is an English retired professional billiards and snooker player. He was born in Halesowen, England.[1] Williams won the World Professional Billiards Championship in 1968. He kept the title in the 1970s and lost it to Fred Davis in 1980. He won the title again from 1982 to 1983.
He was an important figure in the creation of the World Snooker Championship. At the 1986 Grand Prix, aged 53, he became the oldest player to reach a ranking tournament final.[2]
Williams was awarded the British Empire Medal in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to snooker and billiards.[3][4]
