Rochechouart (Occitan: Rechoard) is a commune in the Haute-Vienne department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in west central France. It is a subprefecture of the Haute-Vienne department. It is also the capital of the arrondissement of the same name.

Geography

Rochechouart is in the western part of the Haute-Vienne department, along the valley of the Grêne river. The confluence of the Grêne with the Vayres river is to the south of the town. Another river, the Gorre, forms the northeastern border of the commune.

The city of Rochechouart is at about 45 km (28.0 mi) west of Limoges, the largest town and capital of the department, 185 km (115 mi) from Bordeaux and 434 km (270 mi) from Paris.

The commune has an area of 53.9 km2 (20.8 sq mi).[2] Its average altitude is 236 m (774 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 250 m (820 ft).[3]
