History

It was founded in 2008 by United Spirits and named after the company's liquor brand Royal Challenge. Since its inception, the team has played its home matches at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.[5]

The Royal Challengers have never won the IPL but finished runners-up on three occasions between 2009 and 2016. Their lack of success over the years despite the presence of various notable players has earned them the tag of "underachievers".[6][7] The team holds the records of both the highest and the lowest totals in the IPL – 263/5 and 49 respectively.[8][9]

RCB Wins First IPL Title in 2025

On 3 June 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won their first-ever IPL title by beating Punjab Kings by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.[10][11]

RCB scored 190/9, with Virat Kohli making 43 runs. Punjab Kings fell short, ending at 184/7 despite a strong 61* from Shashank Singh.[12]

Krunal Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar took two wickets each to help RCB defend the total.[13]

This victory ended RCB’s 18-year wait and was a proud moment for longtime player Virat Kohli and RCB fans across India.[4][14]
