Run-DMC (also spelled Run-D.M.C.) was an American hip hop group based in Queens, New York. The group was founded in 1983 by Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels, and Jason Mizell.

Along with LL Cool J and Public Enemy, the group pioneered new school hip hop music.

The group was among the first to highlight the importance of the MC and DJ relationship.[3]

The group ended when Mizell was killed in 2002.

The group achieved a number of notable firsts in hip hop music history. They are credited with being the act most responsible for pushing hip hop into mainstream popular music, initiating its musical and artistic evolution and enabling its growth as a global phenomenon.
