SAS Institute (pronounced "sass") is an American software company in Cary, North Carolina. The company makes a software system that is also called "SAS". It is used for machine learning, artificial intelligence and data management.[1]
History
The name "SAS" is short for "Statistical Analysis System". James Goodnight, Anthony James Barr, John Sall and Jane Helwig founded SAS Institute in 1976 to distribute the SAS software.[2] Barr, Goodnight, and Sall worked together in North Carolina State University's agricultural department to create the SAS software system.[3][4]
The company develops software used for generative artificial intelligence and natural language processing.[5]
