Setúbal (/səˈtuːbəl/,[1] also US: /-bɑːl/,[2] Portuguese: [sɨˈtubal, -bɐl] (listen)) is a city and a municipality in Portugal. The population in 2021 was 123,496.[3]


In Setubal is Portugal’s largest covered market,[4] and the Igreja do Convento de Jesus church. On the hill to the south of the city is the Forte de São Filipe, a fort constructed during the 16th century by the Spanish king, Philip II.
