Skien is a city and a municipality in Telemark, Norway. Skien is the capital of Telemark county. Skien has a population of 55 079.[1]

Geography

Skien is located in the South-East of Telemark. The closest city to Skien is Porsgrunn. Together Skien and Porsgrunn is the seventh largest urban area in Norway.[2] Skienselva is a river flowing through the city, dividing Skien in half.

Animal life: The Aglia tau (picture), a moth that is known as the tau emperor, has been found (as late as the 2020s).[3]

The mayor, Marius Roheim Aarvold, is elected until late 2027.[4]
