"The Kill" (written as The Kill (Bury Me)) is the second single off of American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars' second studio album A Beautiful Lie. The song was released on April 10, 2006.
The song was able to make it to #1 on the Alternative Airplay, #1 on the Mainstream Rock, #3 on the Adult Top 40, #60 on the Mainstream Top 40, and #60 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. [1][2][3][4][5] The song was certified 2× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[6] The song won Best Single at the 2007 Kerrang! Awards.[7]
Vocalist Jared Leto said about the song: "It's really about a relationship with yourself. It's about confronting your fear and confronting the truth about who you are."[8]
A music video for the song was released. The music video pays tribute to the 1980 movie The Shining.[9]
