Tommy Ray Franks (born June 17, 1945) is a retired United States Army general. He was the Commander of the United States Central Command. He was the United States general leading the attack on the Taliban in Afghanistan in response to the September 11 attacks. He was also in charge during the 2003 invasion of Iraq and the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.[1]
