- (countable) The dollar is the main unit of money in the United States, Canada, and other countries including Australia, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Fiji, Guyana, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Liberia, New Zealand, Singapore, the Solomon Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and Zimbabwe. It is usually equal to 100 cents.
Usage notes
The symbol for dollars is $. Five dollars can be written as $5.00. The number after the decimal point (.) is the number of cents. So, five dollars and 25 cents could be written $5.25.
