Abomey je mesto (a obec) departmentu Zou, nachádzajúce sa v južnej časti afrického štátu Benin. Pôvodne bolo hlavným mestom Dahomejskej ríše (ca 1620 – 1904),[1] ktorá sa v roku 1894 stala francúzskym protektorátom[2] a v roku 1904 kolóniou Dahomej, súčasťou Francúzskej Západnej Afriky.

Vďaka komplexu kráľovských palácov, ktoré sú zaradené medzi svetové kultúrne dedičstvo UNESCO, patrí toto mesto k najväčším turistickým atrakciám Beninu.[3]
Mesto bolo založené začiatkom 17. storočia. Slúžilo ako hlavné mesto Dahomejskej ríše, ktorá vznikla pravdepodobne v roku 1620, s výnimkou niekoľkých rokov počas invázií jorubského štátu Oyó, kedy sa centrum ríše presunulo do Allady.[3]
Francúzska koloniálna správa sa podieľala na rekonštrukcii komplexu kráľovských palácov z obdobia Dahomejskej ríše, rozkladajúceho sa na ploche približne 43,7 ha, a v roku 1943 založila Musée historique d'Abomey („Historické múzeum Abomey“). Múzeum s areálom s rozlohou ca 2 ha zahŕňa paláce kráľov Géza (vládol v rokoch 1818 – 1858) a Glèlè (vládol v rokoch 1858 – 1889). V muzeálnej zbierke sa nachádzajú basreliéfy a ďalšie predmety viažuce sa k obdobiu ríše, umelecké predmety (sochy, textílie atď.), predmety týkajúce sa miestnych kultov, oblečenia a vojenské zbrane.[4] Od roku 1985 je palácový komplex súčasťou svetového dedičstva UNESCO.[5]
Abomey je poľnohospodárskym strediskom s potravinárskym priemyslom, pestuje sa tu najmä palma a podzemnica olejná.[6]
