Kobryn[1] (biel. Кобрын, rus. Кобрин, poľ. Kobryń, lit. Kobrynas, jidiš קאברין) je mesto v juhozápadnom Bielorusku v Brestskej oblasti v Kobrynskom rajóne. Neďaleko mesta sa nachádzajú hranice s Poľskom a Ukrajinou. Mesto je administratívnym a priemyselným centrom, významná je strojárska, potravinárska, stavebno-materiálová výroba. Kobryn je tiež významný cestný uzol, mesto sa nachádza na sútoku Dnepersko-bužského prieplavu a rieky Muchavec.[1]

Okolie mesta bolo trvalo osídlené približne v 9. – 10. storočí, samotné mesto Kobryn sa prvýkrát písomne spomína v roku 1287. V ranom období bolo mesto a jeho okolie súčasťou Kyjevskej Rusi a od 13. storočia Haličsko-volynského kniežatstva.[2] Od polovice 14. storočia spadalo pod nadvládu Litovského veľkokniežatstva a následne poľsko-litovskej únie, kde v rokoch 1387 – 1519 tvorilo hlavné sídlo údelného Kobrynského kniežatstva. Miestne kniežatá boli pôvodne pravoslávneho vierovyznania, a až posledná kobrynovská kňažná Anna konvertovala ku katolicizmu. V tomto období boli v meste vystavené dva pôvodne drevené hrady, tzv. Horný a Dolný hrad. V 15. storočí bol v blízkosti mesta postavený Spasský kláštor, neskôr bol prestavaný v duchu baroka. V 16. storočí sa mesto stalo súčasťou Republiky oboch národov. V roku 1586 sa vlastníkom mesta stala kráľovná Anna Jagelovská, vďaka ktorej mesto v roku 1589 prijalo nemecké magdeburské právo a spolu s ním získalo i samosprávu a vlastný erb.[1] Kobranský erb obsahoval postavy Panny Márie s Ježišom a svätej Anny, ktorá mala pripomínať rovnomennú poľskú kráľovnú. V tomto období sa v meste začala rozmáhať židovská menšina a bola postavená aj synagóga.[3]
V 17. storočí bolo mesto miestom častých bojov. V roku 1648 bolo spustošené kozákmi, v roku 1660 bolo počas poľsko-švédskej vojny obsadené Švédmi a v roku 1662 litovskými vojskami. V roku 1706 bolo mesto zdevastované vojskom švédskeho kráľa Karola XII. Okrem toho mesto v tomto období postihol aj pogrom Židov a výrazne posilnil vplyv katolicizmu. Mesto v tomto období prešli značnou premenou. V roku 1784 bol v meste kráľom Stanislavom Augustom slávnostne otvorený Kráľovský kanál (neskôr Dnepersko-bužský prieplav). Po treťom delení Poľska v roku 1795 pripadlo mesto Ruskej ríši. Statky v meste získal ruský generál Alexandr Vasilievič Suvorov. V roku 1812 sa pri Kobryne odohrala bitka medzi ruskými a napoleonskými vojskami. Ruské vojská vyhrali, no v meste vyhorela väčšina domov. V 19. storočí významne vzrástol počet obyvateľstva, kým v roku 1857 v meste bývalo zhruba 4,3 tisíca obyvateľov, ku koncu storočia až vyše 10 000, pričom 64,8% boli Židia. Významný vplyv v meste mal chasidizmus. Mesto prosperovalo, darilo sa obchodu i výrobe. Kobryn sa stal významným dopravným uzlom, kadiaľ viedla železnica i Kráľovský kanál. Časté boli požiare.[3][1]
Počas 1. svetovej vojny bol Kobryn v roku 1915 okupovaný nemeckými vojskami a v roku 1919 bol v rámci poľsko-sovietskej vojny obsadený poľskou armádou. Po Rižskom mieri v roku 1921 sa mesto definitívne stalo súčasťou Poľska. Po vypuknutí 2. svetovej vojny sa pri meste uskutočnila bitka medzi Nemcami a Poliakmi a následne bolo mesto v roku 1939 obsadené sovietskou armádou a začlenené do Bieloruskej SSR. V tomto období tvorili väčšinu obyvateľstva (cca. 70 %) Židia. Väčšina zo židovského obyvateľstva neprežila druhú svetovú vojnu, pretože boli nemeckými nacistami internovaní v gete a vyvraždení. Po vojne mesto zostalo súčasťou Sovietskeho zväzu a po jeho rozpade v roku 1991 pripadlo Bielorusku.[1][3]
