La scheda l xe sta projetà par ospitare sistemi operativi baxai se el kernel Linux o RISC OS. La xe asenblà in Galles, intel Sony UK Technology Centre. El xe sta consepio un sistema operativo apositamente dedicà, chiamà Raspberry Pi OS.
El projeto se baxa so un system-on-a-chip de fabricasion Broadcom (BCM2835[1], opure BCM2836 par el Raspberry Pi 2, o BCM2837 par Raspberry Pi 3), che incorpora un prosesore ARM, na GPU VideoCore IV, e 256 o 512 Megabyte o 1 Gigabyte de memoria. El projeto no prevede né hard disk né unità a stato solido, afidàndose invese a na scheda SD par el boot e par la memoria non volatile.
