源自中古愛爾蘭語 taige（對比蘇格蘭蓋爾語 taigh），源自古愛爾蘭語 tech, teg（對比現代愛爾蘭語teach, tigh），源自原始凱爾特語 *tegos ← 原始印歐語 *tegos (“覆蓋；屋頂”)。
