Howell foi unu de los dos actores consideraos pal papel de "Marty McFly" en Back to the Future, siendo l'otru Eric Stoltz (que foi escoyíu). Michael J. Fox sustituyó finalmente a Stoltz col rodaxe yá en marcha.
