Oscar Apfel (17 de xineru de 1878, Cleveland – 21 de marzu de 1938, Hollywood) foi un actor, guionista, direutor de cine, productor de cine, actor de teatru y actor de cine d'Estaos Xuníos.. Tuvo activu principalmente na dómina del cine mudu, y que, a lo llargo de la so carrera ente 1911 y 1939, actuó en 167 filmes y dirixó 94.

Biografía

El so nome completu yera Oscar C. Apfel, y nació en Cleveland, Ohio. Tres dellos años dedicaos al mundu del comerciu, decidió dedicase profesionalmente al teatru.[2] Consiguió'l so primer compromisu en 1900, na so ciudá natal. Progresó rápido, aportando a el direutor teatral más nuevu de los Estaos Xuníos.[2] En pasando once años nos teatros del circuitu de Broadway, entró a formar parte de los Edison Studios, empezando a dirixir pa los mesmos en 1911–12, rodando l'innovador curtiu The Passer-By (1912). Amás fixo trabayos esperimentales nel llaboratoriu de Edison n'Orange.[2]

Lasky

Cuando Apfel dexó Edison, entró en Reliance-Majestic Studios, permaneciendo 18 meses con ellos.[2] En 1913 foi unu de los dos principales direutores de Jesse L. Lasky Feature Play Company, siendo l'otru Cecil B. DeMille. Toles primeres películes de Lasky fueron producíes so la so direición. Ente les mesmes figuraben los notables ésitos The Squaw Man (1914), Brewster's Millions, The Master Mind, The Only Son, The Ghost Breaker, The Man on the Box, The Circus Man and Caméu Kirby.[2]

La collaboración en llabores de direición de Apfel con DeMille foi un elementu crucial nel desenvolvimientu de la téunica cinematográfica de DeMille. Apfel ye de cutiu consideráu como unu de los primeros (xunto con DeMille) en llevar a Hollywood, entós conocida como Hollywoodland, al mundu del espectáculu.

Fox

A finales de 1914 Apfel dexó Lasky Company y se dedidó a dirixir pa diverses productores, ente elles William Fox Corporation, pa la cual dirixó una serie de filmes nos que William Farnum yera'l protagonista, ente ellos A Soldier's Oath, Fighting Blood, The End of the Trail, The Battle of Hearts y A Man of Sorrow.[2]

Paralta

Pa Paralta Company, estudiu al que Apfel dirixir tres dexar Fox Corporation, produció A Man's a Man, según hestoria de Peter B. Kyne, y The Turn of a Card, dambes películes protagonizaes por J. Warren Kerrigan.[2]

Sofitu armeniu

Auction of Souls (1919), una película pa concenciar al públicu a favor del Comité de Socorru Armeniu, foi obra de Apfel. Esta producción consiguió una gran atención del públicu, consiguiéndose, gracies a la mesma, la recaldación de fuertes sumes a favor de la causa armenia.[2]

Ente otres de les esitoses películes producíes por Apfel, figuren cintes World Film Corporation protagonizaes por Kitty Gordon, Montagu Love, June Elvidge, Louise Huff y Evelyn Greeley.[2]

Últimos años

Tres munchos años dedicaos a la direición, él foi decantándose gradualmente pola interpretación, actividá que caltuvo hasta 1939. Oscar Apfel finó en 1938 en Hollywood, California, por causa de un infartu agudu de miocardiu.
