Walter Matthau (1 d'ochobre de 1920, Nueva York – 1 de xunetu de 2000, Santa Monica) foi un actor d'Estaos Xuníos, d'orixe xudíu rusu-lituanu, ganador de los premios Óscar y Globu d'Oru.

Matthau nació como Walter John Matthow[6][7] en Nueva York (nel Lower East Side) el 1 d'ochobre de 1920, fíu de Rose (nacida Berolsky; de Lituania), emplegada d'una tienda de carambelos, y Milton Matthow, lletricista (de Rusia), dambos xudíos inmigrantes.[8][9][10]
Dedicóse al teatru dende 1948, y en 1955, Burt Lancaster introducir al cine nuna película de la so autoría, The Kentuckian (The Fighting Kentuckian). Ganó'l Óscar al meyor actor secundariu en 1966 pol so papel en The Fortune Cookie (The Fortune Cookie), que foi dirixida por B. Wilder. Xunto a Jack Lemmon realizó dos películes que fueron un ésitu: The Odd Couple (La estraña pareya, 1968), de G. Sake, y The Front Page (Primer plana, 1974), tamién de B. Wilder. Siguiendo colos sos roles risibles, interpretó otros papeles que collecharon gran ésitu en Cactus Flower (Cactus Flower, 1969), The Sunshine Boys (The Sunshine Boys, 1976), de H. Ross y Pirates (1986), de Roman Polański.
