@YoungForever: Hello, I understand that IMDb is not a reliable source and will attempt to find a better reference however there is limited information on writers & directors for the show, that I can find. I will make sure that if I am to add future information, I will more thoroughly check facts, and will provide more suitable references in the future. Terasail[Talk] 21:28, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
If you can't find a reliable source, then do not add them until episodes have been released. — YoungForever(talk) 21:41, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the response to the new photos. I think removing them is fair given the low quality.
I would encourage the addition of high-quality images depicting the same offloading action, if you can include them. I'm fine either way. Jarrod Baniqued (talk) 19:53, 3 August 2020 (UTC)
Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed! Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reasons left by AngusWOOF were:
This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.
The comment the reviewer left was:
Needs more external sources to review the podcast and cover it in detail. Do not cite the actual website/podcast as that is primary source.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit when they have been resolved.

Hello, I'm YoungForever. I noticed that you recently removed content from Trinkets (TV series)without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. — YoungForever(talk) 23:27, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
Hello YoungForever, I had not even realised that I had removed writers names from the season 1 table. I would have corrected it if I had noticed, I was only attempting to add the title names and writers for season 2 with the templates. I can add the season 2 table back again without editing the season 1 table? Thanks Terasail[Talk] 15:57, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
You have removed the directors of season 1 and replaced them with TBA which is disruptive editing. — YoungForever(talk) 18:13, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Your change to "slideshow" mode for the CBM galleries was positively brilliant! (Also, brilliantly positive.) Nicely done. Not fred999 (talk) 16:48, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for uploading File:XpressWestLogo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Hello, Terasail. I recently made a proposal to create Wikiproject Samsung Electronics and was hoping that you would like to be among the first to support it! I chose you as I noticed you were creating a draft for Waveform: The MKBHD Podcast, which is one of my favorite tech podcasts as well, and hoped that your love for tech would be valuable to the WikiProject if it were ever formed. If you would look over and put your name on this page, it would mean a lot to me! Thanks, EDG 543 (talk) 14:56, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
@EDG 543:, Thanks for the comment however I do not think I would join a WikiProject based on just a brand for a few reasons, as you pointed out in a reply to an oppose comment, there are WikiProjects like this but they are also tagged as semi-active. This is probably due to a limited scope which can become uninteresting after a while and only have a limited number of articles applicable. Instead you might wish to think about a WikiProject:Consumer Electronics for example or maybe make a taskforce in WikiProject:Technology on Samsung electronics. Thanks Terasail[Talk] 15:43, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Ok, thank you for your consideration. I will certainly think about changing this WikiProject into something broader or into a task force, as some have suggested. I really do appreciate your feedback! Thanks, EDG 543 (talk) 15:54, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
@Eyebeller:The edit warning in August was a mistake that I made while editing an episode list two months ago. The edit minimum is just there so that your record can be checked over multiple edits to show if you are using tools correctly and following policies rather than, the higher the number the better chance you have at getting a user permission. That's my opinion anyway. Please move this to my talk page if you want to continue this, Thanks. Terasail[Talk] 14:49, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi Terasail, moving the discussion here as requested. The edit count is also there to make sure that the user has a good record of counter-vandalism. People with 200 mainspace edits are still unlikely to be granted Rollback rights. Eyebeller (talk) 15:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Eyebeller, I am well aware of how the systems work. I don't have 200 edits so i'm not sure why you keep mentioning it since it doesn't apply to me, I might not have as many as some but its besides the point. I have enough to request and if an admin decides that I am not ready for the permission it is fine by me, I will continue to do my own thing. If you are to continue to comment on peoples requests then try to be more considerate as in my oppinion you came off as quite condescending by floating peoples edit warning record and edit count, as if it makes them less than others. And since this is just admins giving permissions and not a discussion page I don't particularly see the need in creating large message blocks such as with Ravenzing request. Terasail[Talk] 15:27, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Sorry that I came across condescendingly, however, I do think your edit count is too low - that is just my opinion. I have explained the reasons why I comment on other people requests (on Ravenzing's request). I did not intend to create a large message block. 15:32, 13 October 2020 (UTC) Eyebeller (talk) 15:32, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Eyebeller, I think we all understand that you didn’t intend to create a large message block on the RPERM page, because I’m confident that you didn’t intend for candidates to openly object to your drive-by commentary. Please remove the thread you started from my request as well. Thanks. Zing(Talk!) 16:10, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
I don't think it needs removing if it isn't continued any longer. Eyebeller (talk) 16:13, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Eyebeller, I would like to continue the discussion. Since you started the discussion, please move it to my talk page. Please move the entire thread, starting with your initial unsolicited comment. Thanks Zing(Talk!) 16:45, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
I have moved the discussion and will continue it providing you change your tone immediately. Thanks. Eyebeller (talk) 17:17, 13 October 2020 (UTC)

You will be able to read but not to edit the wikis for up to an hour on 27 October around 14:00 (UTC). It will probably be shorter than an hour.
In the AbuseFilter extension, the rmspecials() function will be updated soon so that it does not remove the "space" character. Wikis are advised to wrap all the uses of rmspecials() with rmwhitespace() wherever necessary to keep filters' behavior unchanged. You can use the search function on Special:AbuseFilter to locate its usage.
Some gadgets and user-scripts use the HTML div with the ID #jump-to-nav. This div will be removed soon. Maintainers should replace these uses with either #siteSub or #mw-content-text. A list of affected scripts is at the top of phab:T265373.

Since the introduction of the interface administrators user group in 2018, administrators couldn’t view the deleted history of CSS/JS pages. Now they can.
There was a problem with the Change Tags. The software would apply the "Reverted" tag to any page actions such as page-protection changes if they came directly after a reverted edit. This has now been fixed for new edits.

You can no longer read Wikimedia wikis if your browser uses very old TLS. This is because it is a security problem for everyone. It could lead to downgrade attacks. Since October 29, 2020, users who use old TLS versions will not be able to connect to Wikimedia projects. A list of browser recommendations is available. All modern operating systems and browsers are always able to reach Wikimedia projects.
There is a new automatic tracking category available: Pages with non-numeric formatnum arguments. It collects pages which use the {{formatnum}} parser function with invalid (non-numeric) input, e.g.{{formatnum:TECHNEWS}}. Note that {{formatnum:123,456}} is also invalid input: as described in the documentation, the argument should be unformatted so that it can be reliably and correctly localised. The tracking category will help identify problematic usage and double-formatting. The new tracking category's name can be translated at translatewiki.

In the future IP addresses of unregistered users will not be shown for everyone. They will get an alias instead. There will be a new user right or an opt-in function for more vandal fighters to see the IPs of unregistered users. There would be some criteria for who gets the user right or opt-in. There will also be other new tools to help handle vandalism. This is early in the process and the developers are still collecting information from the communities before they suggest solutions.

Hi Terasail, was looking at the last opening paragraph on QAnon. I know that Wikipedia is WP:NOTCENSORED, however I feel like having this in the opening: "Followers had also migrated to dedicated message boards such as EndChan and 8chan (now rebranded as "8kun"), where they organized to wage information warfare to influence the 2020 United States presidential election" will only send more people to kooky forums like 8kun. What do you think about excluding that from the opening paragraph? Thanks. Sxologist (talk) 02:59, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
@Sxologist: As long as you have a WP:RELIABLE source for your information, just either make note on the talk page and ask for feedback or just make the edit (WP:BOLD). I have no personal opinion or knowledge on what that article should contain. Thanks, Terasail[Talk] 09:10, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Hello. Your account has been granted the "massmessage-sender" user right, allowing you to send messages to multiple users at once. A few important things to note:
Messages should only be sent to groups of users who are likely to be interested in the topic.
For regular mailings such as those for WikiProjects, localized events, or newsletters, users should be informed of how they can unsubscribe from future mailings.
The mass messaging tool should never be used for canvassing with the intention of influencing the outcome of discussions.
For more information, refer to the guidance for use. If you do not want mass message sender rights anymore, just let me or any other administrator know and we will remove it. Thank you and happy editing! — Wug·a·po·des 03:48, 8 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I saw you made some edits to the Template:Top 25 report template and module, and I was hoping you could help with some updates? After the template merge, it's no longer possible to display both #1 appearances on the list and the total number of appearances. There's also the annual list of the top 50 viewed for the last 5 years, and it would be good to have parameters for that. Would it be possible to add parts in the module to allow for these parameters? So that the template can reflect: #1 appearances, all top 25 appearances, and annual top 50 appearances (retaining the automatic wikilinks for the weeks). Basically combining the functionality of the "second design" and the main template into one, and adding something like the main template for annual lists? I have an idea how it would work for the template, but I'm not that experienced at lua to make it work there. Kingsif (talk) 15:24, 6 December 2020 (UTC)
@Kingsif: There should not be any functionality difference after the merge, it is possible to add the functionality to the module. However I am not the best at lua and with the implementation difference between how the weeks are displayed in the two types of template, with the second design taking a wikilink, I do not really have the time to figure out how to add this currently. Maybe this should be listed on Template talk:Top 25 report. With the Top 50 appearances, it should probably be its own template since it would not make sense to have it as the Top 25 report. As noted in the prior issue, Enterprisey's links-in-logs script has now been implemented as part of MediaWiki core. By my count, this is his third script that was replaced by implementing the code in MediaWiki core or an extension, along with link-section-edits and abusefilter-hide-search. Additionally, his reply-link script is being converted in part to mw:Extension:DiscussionTools. Are there any other scripts that might be worth integrating directly in MediaWiki? You can choose to be reminded when you have not added an edit summary. This can be done in your preferences. This could conflict with the CAPTCHA. This has now been fixed.
You can link to specific log entries. You can get these links for example by clicking the timestamps in the log. Until now, such links to private log entries showed no entry even if you had permission to view private log entries. The links now show the entry.
Admins can use the abuse filter tool to automatically prevent bad edits. Three changes happened last week:
The filter editing interface now shows syntax errors while you type. This is similar to JavaScript pages. It also shows a warning for regular expressions that match the empty string. New warnings will be added later.
Oversighters can now hide multiple filter log entries at once using checkboxes on Special:AbuseLog. This is how the usual revision deletion works.
When a filter matches too many actions after it has been changed it is "throttled". The most powerful actions are disabled. This is to avoid many editors getting blocked when an administrator made a mistake. The administrator will now get a notification about this "throttle".
Bots using the API no longer watch pages automatically based on account preferences. Setting the watchlist to watch will still work. This is to reduce the size of the watchlist data in the database.
There was a new version of MediaWiki last week. You can read a detailed log of all 763 changes. Most of them are very small and will not affect you.

The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 January. It will be on all wikis from 14 January (calendar).
I don't disagree with adding the Netflix link, its just that it too soon, as the show hasn't premiered yet. I hope it does premiere soon, because then there will be more articles and the page can be improved. Historyday01 (talk) 02:19, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
@Historyday01: Yeah, I was going through all listed shows on {{Netflix original upcoming series}} and adding the series link where it was missing. I personally see it a different way, where the Netflix link is useful even if the show has not premiered, users may wish to have the link for an easy way to find the show and add a reminder themselves. However I am not aware of any MOS on this so the main editors of the article should decide this, I was almost auto adding the links and should have considered the comment tags there. Terasail[✉] 17:43, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
Ok, that makes sense. Historyday01 (talk) 18:10, 13 January 2021 (UTC)
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Problems
IPv6 addresses were written in lowercase letters in diffs. This caused dead links since Special:Contributions only accepted uppercase letters for the IPs. This has been fixed.
Changes later this week
You can soon use Wikidata to link to pages on the multilingual Wikisource.
Often editors use a "non-breaking space" to make a gap between two items when reading but still show them together. This can be used to avoid a line break. You will now be able to add new ones via the special character tool in the 2010, 2017, and visual editors. The character will be shown in the visual editor as a space with a grey background.
Wikis use abuse filters to stop bad edits being made. Filter maintainers can now use syntax like 1.2.3.4 - 1.2.3.55 as well as the 1.2.3.4/27 syntax for IP ranges.
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 2 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 3 February. It will be on all wikis from 4 February (calendar).

Minerva is the skin Wikimedia wikis use for mobile traffic. When a page is protected and you can't edit it you can normally read the source wikicode. This doesn't work on Minerva on mobile devices. This is being fixed. Some text might overlap. This is because your community needs to update MediaWiki:Protectedpagetext to work on mobile. You can read more.
Cloud VPS and Toolforge will change the IP address they use to contact the wikis. The new IP address will be 185.15.56.1. This will happen on February 8. You can read more.
User:Ahecht/Scripts/pageswap - version 1.4 fixes reading destination from form field if destination is not in article namespace, and fixes self redirects.
Wikipedia:XFDcloser - version 4 brings a new user interface for dialogs, some preferences for customising XFDcloser, major behind-the-scenes coding changes, and resolves various issues raised on the talkpage. Also, since version 3.16.6 non-admin soft delete closure have been allowed at TfD.

As a reminder, the legacy javascript globals (like accessing wgPageName without first assigning it a value or using mw.config.get('wgPageName') instead) are deprecated. If your user scripts make use of the globals, please update them to use mw.config instead. Some global interface editors or local interface administrators may edit your user script to make these changes if you don't. See phab:T72470 for more.
Miscellaneous
For people interested in creating user scripts or gadgets using TypeScript, a types-mediawiki package (GitHub, NPM) is now available that provides type definitions for the MediaWiki JS interface and the API.
A GitHub organization has been created for hosting codebases of gadgets. Users who maintain gadgets using GitHub may choose to move their repos to this organization, to ensure continued maintenance by others even if the original maintainer becomes inactive.
As always, if anyone else would like to contribute, including nominating a featured script, help is appreciated. Stay safe, and happy new year! --DannyS712 (talk) 01:17, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

I think I have a fix for the bug (see below), but I am not an expert at wikicoding. Would you be willing to either test this or help me learn how to test this so that we can fix this bug?
Test the change by editing a page with the template (Your userpage / sandbox) and change {{Service awards}} to {{Service awards/sandbox}} and click preview.
It will show the changes in action, you should be able to tell if the change works.
Another option is to use /testcases to check multiple small paramter changes against each other. Example: Template:Archives/testcases however this would not work well for topicons.
If the change works how expected implement them after following WP:TPECON.
However here I have tested and this is non controversial, so just copy over the sandbox to the module version & the change will be made. That way you will be given attribution for this change. Hope this helps Terasail[✉] 13:39, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
@Terasail: Thanks for all your help! I would have been much more nervous about making this change without it, especially you testing it yourself. I've made the change.
I noticed that |noinc= is missing from the documentation for the template, though. Since it was your work to add the functionality in the first place, do you want to add it there so that you get the attribution? Brvhelios (talk) 05:26, 26 February 2021 (UTC)

The Wikimedia movement has been using IRC on a network called Freenode. There have been changes around who is in control of the network. The Wikimedia IRC Group Contacts have decided to move to the new Libera Chat network instead. This is not a formal decision for the movement to move all channels but most Wikimedia IRC channels will probably leave Freenode. There is a migration guide and ongoing Wikimedia discussions about this.

The Wikimedia movement uses Phabricator for technical tasks. This is where we collect technical suggestions, bugs and what developers are working on. The company behind Phabricator will stop working on it. This will not change anything for the Wikimedia movement now. It could lead to changes in the future.
Searching on Wikipedia will find more results in some languages. This is mainly true for when those who search do not use the correct diacritics because they are not seen as necessary in that language. For example searching for Bedusz doesn't find Będusz on German Wikipedia. The character ę isn't used in German so many would write e instead. This will work better in the future in some languages.
The CSRF token parameters in the action API were changed in 2014. The old parameters from before 2014 will stop working soon. This can affect bots, gadgets and user scripts that still use the old parameters.
