Zarabad, Sistan and Baluchestan

Zarabad (Persian: زرآباد) is a city in the Central District of Zarabad County, Sistan and Baluchestan province, Iran, and serves as capital of both the county and the district.[3] It is also the administrative center for Zarabad-e Sharqi Rural District.[4]

At the 2006 census, its population was 914 in 180 households, when it was a village in Zarabad-e Sharqi Rural District of the former Zarabad District of Konarak County.[5] The following census in 2011 counted 3,222 people in 711 households,[6] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 4,003 people in 876 households.[2] by which time the village had been elevated to the status of a city upon merging with the village of Jahelu.[7]
After the census, the district was separated from the county in the establishment of Zarabad County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Zarabad as its capital and only city.[3]
