  • August 8:
    • The first episode of Doraemon is broadcast, based on the eponymous manga series.[10] This adaptation became rarely seen after the broadcast of the longer-running 1979 relaunch as the reason for this was to protect the reputation of the relaunch, which was mandated by Shogakukan, becoming a lost media. However, later episodes were recovered by IMAGICA in the 1990s. A clip from one of the lost episodes was spotted on a pornographic Japanese movie.[11]
    • Ralph Bakshi releases Heavy Traffic.[12]
