  • January 1 – Spain takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from Sweden.[2]
  • March 7 – Tens of thousands demonstrate against an abortion bill in several Spanish cities.[3]
  • April 12 – A 6.2 magnitude earthquake strikes Spain, one of the first large earthquakes to strike the Iberian region in half a century.
