This superfamily includes the following three families:[1][2]

The oldest known fossil members of Cordulegastroidea are the family Mesochlorogomphidae (containing Mesochlorogomphus & Hispanochlorogomphus) from the Barremian of England & Spain, and the family Araripechlorogomphidae (containing only Araripechlorogomphus) from the late Aptian of Brazil, which are thought to be related to the Chlorogomphidae.[3][4]
