FPT, officially the FPT Corporation (Vietnamese: Công ty Cổ phần FPT, lit.'FPT Joint Stock Company'; "FPT" stands for Financing and Promoting Technology), is the largest information technology service company in Vietnam with operations spanning three fundamental sectors: Technology, Telecommunications and Education.

On September 13, 1988, FPT was officially founded under the name Food Processing Technology.[1][2] On October 27, 1990, the company changed its name to The Corporation for Technology Development and Investment (abbreviated as FPT), operating mainly in the field of information technology.[3] In 1998, FPT was one of the first four Internet service providers (ISPs) in Vietnam.[4] Since 2002, FPT has operated as a joint-stock company.[4]

On September 8, 2006, FPT University was established under the corporation, becoming the first corporate university in Vietnam to be licensed.[5] Also in 2006, on October 24, FPT issued additional shares to two strategic investors, Texas Pacific Group (TPG) and Intel Capital,[6] receiving an investment of 36.5 million USD.[7][6] On November 18, 2006, FPT and Microsoft signed a strategic alliance agreement.[8] On December 13, 2006, FPT stock was listed on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE).[9]

On December 19, 2008, FPT Corporation was approved to change its name from "The Corporation for Financing and Promoting Technology" to "FPT Corporation". On December 24, 2008, FPT Corporation announced a decision to appoint Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam as the CEO of FPT Group, replacing Mr. Truong Gia Binh. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam is a founding member of FPT Corporation and chairman of FPT Software (FSOFT).

In February 2011, the board of directors of FPT Corporation issued a resolution appointing Mr. Truong Dinh Anh as general director to replace Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam.[10] On July 31, 2013, the board of directors of FPT Corporation approved the appointment of Mr. Bui Quang Ngoc, Ph.D. in database, to replace Mr. Truong Gia Binh as FPT's general director. Mr. Bui Quang Ngoc is one of the founding members and currently vice chairman of FPT.[11] In 2014, FPT was the first IT company in Vietnam to acquire a foreign IT company, RWE IT Slovakia (a member of RWE, a European leading energy corporation).[12][13] In August 2017, FPT transferred 30% of its ownership in FPT Retail to Vina Capital and Dragon Capital, reducing its stake in FPT Retail to 55%.[14][15] In September 2017, FPT transferred 47% of its ownership in FPT Trading to Synnex Corporation (Taiwan), reducing its stake in FPT Trading to 48%.[16] In July 2018, FPT acquired 90% stake in Intellinet Consulting (Intellinet), one of the fastest growing technology consulting companies in the US. In March 2019, FPT appointed Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa - Executive Vice President of FPT and CEO of FPT Information System - to take the position of FPT's CEO, replacing Mr. Bui Quang Ngoc at the end of his term.

In May 2021, FPT acquired Base.vn, a SaaS start-up.[17] In July 2021, FPT invested in Intertec International.[18] In August 2021, FPT launched eCovax – the digital "vaccine" program that helps businesses respond – recover – thrive in COVID-19.[19] On September 16, 2021, FPT's Chairman Truong Gia Binh initiated the idea of building a school for children who lost their parents due to COVID-19.[20] FPT has strengthened its presence in 27 countries by opening a second office in New York in May 2022 and the first representative office in Northern Europe in Copenhagen, Denmark in September 2022.[citation needed] In September 2022, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Heng Swee Keat visited FPT with the aim of promoting partnership and cooperation of private sector enterprises between Vietnam and Singapore.[21] In October 2022, FPT invested in Japanese business consulting services provider LTS Inc., becoming its strategic shareholder.[22]

In 2023, FPT executed four M&A deals and invested in technology companies in the US and France, such as Intertec International, Cardinal Peak, AOSIS and Landing AI.[23] On December 14, 2023, FPT launches automotive technology subsidiary in Texas – FPT Automotive.[24] In April 2024 it partnered with American tech company Nvidia to build an artificial intelligence factory.[25]

On July 16, 2025, the Ministry of Public Security officially received the state-owned stake (50.17% / 50.2%) in FPT Telecom from the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC). Prior to the transfer, SCIC held ~50.2%, while FPT Corporation held ~45.66% and maintained control over operations.[citation needed]

FPT Software Company Limited (Vietnamese: Công ty Trách nhiệm Hữu hạn Phần mềm FPT) is a global IT services provider headquartered in Hanoi, Vietnam, being the core subsidiary of the group. As of 2024, the company reached US$2.47 billion in revenue and more than 54,000 core employees across 30 countries. FPT Software was founded in 1999 by 13 members of FPT Group, led by Nguyen Thanh Nam (later CEO, Chairman of FPT Software then CEO of FPT Corporation until 2011).

In 2005, FPT Software opened its first overseas branch in Japan, and in 2007 the company opened an office in Singapore and exceeded US$10 million in profits.

In 2008 the company expanded global operations to France, and in 2012 it opened its first office in Germany.

In 2014, FPT Software acquired RWE IT Slovakia, becoming the first Vietnamese IT company to conduct an overseas merger and acquisition.[26]

In 2016, FPT Korea was established and FPT Software reached US$200 million of revenue and 10,000 employees, with FPT Japan becoming FPT Software's first overseas branch to surpass US$100 million in revenue.

In 2017, FPT Software partnered with 75 companies in the Fortune Global 500 and signed a contract worth over USD$35 million for enterprise resource planning (ERP) development.

In 2018, FPT bought a majority stake in Intellinet, a US-based consulting firm, and was listed among top 40 IT companies in Japan.

In 2021, FPT reached US$500 million in revenue, with 50% growth in the US market, and during the pandemic the company continued its global office expansion and maintained growth in revenue and profits.

In 2022, FPT Software reported revenue over US$800 million, marking the third consecutive year of revenue growth above 25%. The company began working with customers generating over US$100 million in annual revenue and opened its 10th U.S. office in New York City.

In 2023, FPT Software conducted mergers, acquisitions and investments in the United States and Europe, and joined the AI Alliance. The company was named a Regional Strategic Services Partner by SAP in the Asia Pacific and Japan region. In December FPT Automotive, a unit focused on software-defined vehicles, was established. In the same year, FPT Software reported over US$1 billion in revenue from global IT services.[27]

In 2024, the company reported revenue of US$2.47 billion and profit before tax of US$434.57 million. It received a Silver Rating from EcoVadis for its sustainability practices and was deemed as a Great Place to Work® in multiple countries. The same year FPT Corporation established 2 AI Factories in Vietnam and Japan, leveraging NVIDIA's advanced GPU technology.

In 2025, FPT received the EcoVadis Silver Rating for Sustainability Excellence through its Japanese subsidiary, and received the SAP APJ Partner Excellence Award 2025 for Regional Strategic Services Partner. FPT and Chelsea Football Club announced a strategic global partnership, in which FPT will provide AI-driven and digital solutions to support Chelsea’s operations and fan engagement.
