Go gained wider recognition with his roles in Reply 1988 (2015) as Sung Sun-woo.[9][10] In January, Go and the rest of the casts and crews went to vacation in Phuket, Thailand, which was organized by the Reply 1988 production crew as a reward for the success of the drama. There, Go and other three boys were “kidnapped” by director Na Young-seok. He brought them to Namibia in southern Africa for his Travel show over flower spin-off. The boys were in Africa for 10 days and went to popular destinations such as Victoria Park and Dune 45.[11] In February 2016, Go featured in tvN's travel program Youth Over Flowers: Africa.[12]

In the following year, Go starred in Don't Dare to Dream (2016).[13] The story follows weather caster Pyo Na-ri (Gong Hyo-jin) and news anchor Lee Hwa-shin (Jo Jung-suk), who have been long-time colleagues at SBC broadcasting station. Three years ago, Na-ri developed feelings for Hwa-shin, but everything takes a turn when she encounters the impeccably charming Go Jung-won (Go Kyung-pyo), a wealthy heir and a close friend of Hwa-shin. He received the "New Star Award" at the 2016 SBS Drama Awards for his role.[14]

In 2017, Go starred in tvN's fantasy-romance drama Chicago Typewriter alongside Yoo Ah-in and Im Soo-jung.[15] The same year, he was cast in his first leading role in KBS's drama Strongest Deliveryman alongside Chae Soo-bin.[16] He then starred in medical thriller drama Cross which premiered in January 2018.[17][18]

2020–present: Post enlistment roles and accolades

After a two-year hiatus, Go made his comeback in the 2020 JTBC drama Private Lives as an imposter.[19] In 2021, Go made cameo appearances in the tvN Drama My Roommate Is a Gumiho[20] and Netflix series D.P.[21]

2022 was a busy year for Go. Go appeared in Park Chan-wook's mystery film Decision to Leave[22] as Soo-wan. In April 2022, Decision to Leave was selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival,[23] where Park Chan-wook won Best Director.[24] His portrayal earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 43rd Blue Dragon Film Awards, and he also won the Chung Jung-won Popular Star Award.[25][26]

In the same year, Go starred in Park Gyu-tae's comedy film 6/45[27] alongside Lee Yi-kyung, Eum Moon-suk, Park Se-wan and Kwak Dong-yeon. The film depicts an encounter between South and North Korean soldiers over the 5.7 billion won lottery that fled the Military Demarcation Line because of the wind.[28] It was released on August 24, 2022.[29][30] Go also starred in film Seoul Vibe.[31] It was released on Netflix on August 26, 2022.[32] Go then appeared as main lead in Love in Contract, a television series starring Park Min-young, and Kim Jae-young. It aired on tvN from September 21 to November 10, 2022, every Wednesday and Thursday at 22:30 (KST).[33][34] His next work was Takashi Miike's OTT Series Connect ) starring Jung Hae-in, and Kim Hye-jun. Based on a webtoon of the same name, the series depicts a mysterious story that occurs when a man who has been deprived of a part of his body by organ hunters, connects with a person who has received an organ transplant.[35] It premiered on Disney+ on December 7, 2022.[36][37]

In 2024, Go cast as male lead in television series Frankly Speaking, opposite female lead Kang Han-na. It is scheduled to premiere on JTBC on May 1, 2024, and will air every Wednesday and Thursday at 20:50 (KST).[38] It will also be available for streaming on Netflix in selected regions.[39]
