Synthesis

Synthesis of iodosyl trifluoride can be done by a reaction of iodine pentoxide with iodine pentafluoride.^[2]

I₂O₅ + 3 IF₅ → 5 IOF₃

Synthesis can be by a reaction of gases:^[3]

I₂ + O₂ + 3 F₂ → 2 IOF₃

Or alternately by reaction of iodine pentafluoride with water:

IF₅ + H₂O → IOF₃ + 2 HF

Physical properties

Iodosyl trifluoride forms hygroscopic colorless needles. Reacts with water.^[4][how?]

Chemical properties

Iodosyl trifluoride is hygroscopic and decomposes into IO₂F and IF₅ at 110 °C (230 °F).^[5]
