Mentor International (also known as the Mentor Foundation) is an international, non-governmental organisation focused on youth development and the prevention of substance abuse among young people. It was founded in 1994 by Queen Silvia of Sweden in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.[1][2]
Overview
Mentor International designs and implements evidence-based programs that promote life skills, mentoring, and substance use prevention among youth. It operates through a global network of affiliates, including Mentor Arabia, Mentor Foundation USA, and Mentor Sweden.[2][3]
The organisation collaborates with schools, governments, and corporations to support prevention education and mentorship initiatives. Its school-based curriculum “Unplugged” has been implemented in over 20 countries.[4]

Leadership
The Board of Trustees is chaired by Yvonne Thunell and includes prominent figures such as Stefan Persson, chairman of H&M, and Bertil Hult, founder of EF Education First.[2] Honorary board members include Queen Noor of Jordan, Henri, Grand Duke of Luxembourg, and members of the House of Saud, including Turki bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.[5]
Impact
Since its founding, Mentor International reports having reached more than six million young people worldwide through school-based, family, and community programs.[2] The organisation has received recognition from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) for its contributions to global prevention efforts.[6]
