Prafulla Samal (born 15 August 1947[1], Bhadrak) is an Indian politician and currently a member of the Biju Janata Party. He joined Odisha politics in 1971. [1] In 1995, he was elected as an MLA from Bhadrak Constituency as a representative of the Janata Party in the 10th Legislative Assembly. Later, he was elected to the Legislature from Bhadrak as a Janata Party representative in the 11th and 12th Legislature, and as a Biju Janata Party representative in the 15th and 16th Legislature from Bhandaripokhari.[2] In the 14th Legislature, Prof.

Prafulla Samal is an Indian politician from Odisha. He was a six times elected Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 1990, 1995, 2001(bypoll), 2009, 2014, and 2019, representing the Bhadrak and Bhandaripokhari assembly.[1][2]

Political career

Samal was first elected as a Member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 1990, 1995, and in a 2001 by-election, representing Bhadrak as a member of the Janata Dal. He was subsequently elected in 2009, 2014, and 2019, representing Bhandaripokhari as a member of the Biju Janata Dal.[3]

In the 2024 Odisha Legislative Assembly elections, he contested from the Bhadrak Legislative Assembly constituency as a BJD candidate. In this election, he secured a total of 66,244 votes, defeating his nearest rival Sitashanshu Shekhar Mohapatra of Bharatiya Janata Party by 16,068 votes.[citation needed]
