Software

The Rabbit r1 operates on Rabbit OS, a heavily customized variant of Android 13 (AOSP).[10] Rabbit emphasizes that the operating system is specifically tailored for its unique hardware.[11]

The device uses a Large Action Model (LAM) to perform tasks such as searches, music playback, and bookings.[12] It integrates with Perplexity.ai for search and offers a "connections" system to link external services.[2][13]

Funding and Sales

Rabbit secured $20 million in funding in October 2023, followed by an additional $10 million in December 2023.[15][16] The device sold 130,000 units following its debut at CES 2024.[17] Rabbit later expanded availability to the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Singapore.[18]

Reviews and Improvements

In February 2025, Tom’s Guide praised the Rabbit R1 as "pretty good now," highlighting consistent updates that improved UI responsiveness, battery life, vision functionality, and task automation.[19] The review also noted features like Magic Camera, Generative UI, Magic Voice, and r‑cade games as key attractions.

Digital Trends called Magic Camera a standout feature for turning ordinary photos into creative visuals.[20] Mashable similarly cited the improved intelligence offered by beta rabbit.[21]

Controversies

GAMA project

In May 2024, YouTuber Coffeezilla raised concerns over Rabbit’s earlier GAMA project, which involved NFTs. Rabbit stated that funds were spent on the project as intended, later open-sourced it, and implemented market stabilization efforts.[22]

Security

In mid-2024, security researchers identified hardcoded API keys within Rabbit R1’s software. Rabbit responded by revoking keys, terminating the responsible employee, and implementing new safeguards.[23][24][25] Later updates added factory reset options and stronger data protections.[26]
