Renown Sports Club is a Sri Lankan professional football club based in Kotahena, Colombo.[2] Founded in 1981 by the Peeris Brothers, the club currently competes in the Sri Lanka Super League.[3][4]

History

Renown SC was founded in 1981.[5] The club emerged champions in the Sri Lanka Champions League four times in 1990, 1993, 1994 and 2009.[6] They became the first Sri Lankan club to sign numerous Indian players for a single season, signing Shaji Varghese, Shibu Stellas and Shyam Simon (all from Kerala) in 2004.[7][2] In 2004, Renown participated in the 110th IFA Shield in 2004, in Kolkata.

They appeared in the 2010 edition of AFC President's Cup,[8] but could not proceeded to the knockout stages.

Renown uses Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, as its home ground. The stadium has a capacity of nearly 25,000 spectators.[9][10]
