Touring and bass work
Credited as Tony Harewood, TONE played bass guitar on American indie-pop artist Jeremy Jay’s third studio album Splash (2010), released by Olympia-based independent label K Records.[7] He later appeared as songwriter and bassist on Jay’s fifth studio album Abandoned Apartments (2014), also released on K Records.[8] Harewood contributed both in studio and on tour in Europe as part of Jay’s lineup supporting these albums.[9]
Collaboration with Farai
Harewood was half of the punk duo Farai, formed with Zimbabwean-born vocalist Farai Bukowski‑Bouquet.[10] Their 2017 debut single "Lion Warrior," released on NON Worldwide, a label started by Chino Amobi, was described by Pitchfork as a “post‑punk battle cry,” with producer TONE channeling Joy Division’s youthful rage through synth chords and drums framing a mantra-like chant.[11] They released the EP Kisswell on NON Worldwide and the album Rebirth in November 2018 on Big Dada, blending spoken-word punk, post-punk instrumentation, and lo-fi electronics to explore themes of diaspora, urban life, and political identity.[12] The duo gained coverage from BBC Radio 6 Music, The Fader, The Guardian, Dazed, CRACK, Boiler Room, and Tate exhibitions.[13]
Mixtape: MIXX 1 (2019)
TONE’s lo-fi, experimental mixtape MIXX 1 was released on cassette in January 2019 via his Bandcamp page.[14] The limited handmade run of 20 tapes reflected his early DIY aesthetic and exploratory production style. A later review described his early work as carrying a “primitive swagger.”[15]
Debut album: So I Can See You (2022)
Released on March 4, 2022 by Rhythm Section International, So I Can See You was recorded at night during his daughter’s birth using a Tascam 38 tape machine in a Hither Green studio shared with Mica Levi and Coby Sey. The album features collaborators including Coby Sey, Fran Lobo, Roxanne Tataei, and Marc Pell.[1][2][3][5] Critics praised the emotional intimacy and genre-spanning sound.[4]
