Etymology

Schuessler (2007) suggests that it is probably cognate with (OC *kad, “wether”), in which case it would be of Sino-Tibetan origin. Wang (1982) instead relates this word to (OC *kaːʔ, “male bovine”) and (OC *kraː, “boar”).
