Etymology
Originally Bavarian variant of Sälmling, equivalent to Salm (“salmon”) + -ling. The form shows -a- from secondary umlaut, vowelisation of -l-, and dissimilation -ml- > -bl-. Especially the former two are typically Bavarian developments.
