Etymology

Named after Italian acrobat Alfonso Barani.

Noun

barani (plural baranis)

  1. (sports) A forward somersault with a half twist.
    • 2014, Jack Kelly, Over & Above: Trampoline Gymnastics, Meyer & Meyer Verlag, →ISBN, page 174:
The barani and the full twisting back somersault can also be subject to the gymnast's mistaken perception because both of these moves are likely to be the first occasions when the pupil has tried to combine twist with complete somersault rotation.
