Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Baltic *dumblás, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewbʰ- (deep) via nasal infixation. Cognate with Latvian dumbla (dialectal), dubļi pl (mud), perhaps further akin to Proto-Slavic *dǫbъ (oak).
