Etymology

From Old Norse gramr, from Proto-Germanic *gramaz. Cognate of Danish gram (irate), Icelandic gramur. Related to gräma. The extension -se represents the third-person reflexive pronoun (modern Swedish sig). Compare varse, vilse, ledsen.
