Proto-Finnic *kaja + -staa, probably from Proto-Uralic *kaja (compare Northern Sami guojihit, Erzya каемс (kajems), Eastern Mari кояш (kojaš), Nganasan [script needed] (kou), Kamassian [script needed] (kuja)).
