remmen c

Pronunciation
Etymology 1
From Middle Dutch remmen, from Old Dutch *remmen, from Proto-West Germanic *hrammjan, from Proto-Germanic *hramjaną. Historically derived from raam (“window, framework”) + -en (“denominative”) affected by umlaut. However, most speakers won't perceive this assocation and would rather derive the verb from rem (“brake”) + -en.
