    1. (impersonal + elative) to become, get, go, turn (noun, adjective, participle, etc.)
      Hänestä tuli rikas.
      He became rich.
      Heistä tuli hulluja. (in the plural, the partitive case is used)
      They became crazy.
    2. to become, get, go, turn [with translative] (usually an adjective or a participle, only rarely a noun)
      He tulivat hulluiksi.
      They went crazy.
      Huomenna tulee kuluneeksi sata vuotta hänen syntymästään.
      Tomorrow it will be one hundred years since he was born.
  3. to come into, get [with illative] (enter a state of being)

Usage notes

The inessive form of the third infinitive is relatively seldom used, and the corresponding form of the noun tulo are usually used instead, especially colloquially (i.e., tulossa instead of tulemassa).
