Etymology
From Middle Low German dûve, ultimately from Proto-Germanic *dūbǭ, whence also English dove and German Taube.
Dialectal variants include tui (where the v has been lost) and tuuvi, compare also Ingrian tuuvi. See also turteltuvi. First attested in 1632.
