Etymology

Inherited from Old French vignoble (also latinised as vinoblium). According to the most widely accepted theory from Old Occitan vinhobre, from Vulgar Latin *vineoporus, from Ancient Greek ἀμπελoφόρος (ampelophóros, bearing vines) by substitution of the component word ἄμπελος (ámpelos, vine) with native Latin vinea.
