From German Ziege, from Middle High German zige, from Old High German ziga, from Proto-West Germanic *tigā. Compare Old Armenian տիկ (tik, wineskin), Albanian dhi (she-goat), Ishkashimi [script needed] (dec, goatskin bag), and further German Zicke, which is cognate with English tick (goat).
