Astronomo honen kalkuluen arabera, eguzkiaren biraketa 365 egunetan eta sei orduetan ezarri zuten, hurbilketa handia izan zen, errore-marjina oso txikiarekin, garai hartako instrumentu rudimentarioak kontuan hartuta, akats absolutua urteko 11 minutu eta 9 segundokoa besterik ez baitzen. Hau da, egun bateko segundo bat baino gutxiago.
Horrela jaio zen juliatar egutegia deiturikoa, dagoeneko eguzkialdikoa, 365 eta 1/4 (6 ordu) eguneko iraupenarekin, lau urteren buruan egun osagarri bat (zenbaketa doitzeko) otsailaren 25etik 24ra bitartean tartekatzen zuena , eta 24a "sextus kalendas martii" izateagatik egun gehigarriari "bis sextus" deitu zitzaion; bertatik, urte bisustu izena dator.
Erromatar Inperioan ofiziala izan zen egutegi hau, eta Eliza Katolikoak bere kalkuluak egiteko hartu zuen, baina dagoeneko ohartarazi zuen Nizeako I. kontzilioan (325) Sosígenesen kalkuluak okerrak zirela, nahiz eta ez zen bere erreformaren erabakia hartu. Izan ere, kristautasunaren jai nagusiaren ospakizunaren data kalkulatzen jarraitu zuen, Piztueraren Pazkoa (udaberriko ekinokzioaren ondoren lehenengo ilbetearen lehen igandea, data finko gisa hartuz, martxoaren 21a), haren arabera.
